Corrosion resistance:
Except molten alkali metal, resistance to chemical corrosion and weathering, polytetrafluoroethylene, almost free from any chemical corrosion. For example, in concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, and even boiled in aqua regia, no change in weight and performance, and almost insoluble in all solvents, only slightly soluble in full-alkanes (about 0.1g/100g) above 300 °C. PTFE is non-hygroscopic, nonflammable, and extremely stable to oxygen, ultraviolet, and therefore has excellent weathering resistance.

Electrical properties:
PTFE dielectric constant and dielectric losses are very low in a wide frequency range, and the breakdown voltage, volume resistivity, arc resistance are relative high.

Radiation resistance:
The radiation resistance of PTFE is poor (104 rad), which easy to degradation caused by high-energy radiation, electrical properties and mechanical properties of polymer will be significantly decreased.

Polymerization:
PTFE polymerized by tetrafluoroethylene through free radical. Industrial polymerization reaction is carried out in a large amount of water under stirring and for dispersing reaction heat, then to control the temperature easily. The polymerization is generally at 40~80 °C, under a pressure of 3~26 kgf/cm2, and can use inorganic persulfates, organic peroxide as initiator, also can use a redox initiator system. Per mole of tetrafluoroethylene polymerization exotherm 171.38kJ. Dispersion polymerization must be added the perfluoro type surface active agents, such as perfluoro caprylic acid or its salts.
